I first met Nic from Helcim via an e-mail he sent to me regarding their payment processing/ecommerce company in Calgary. I'm not going to sugar cote things, the merchant account business is generally full of confusion and I found what he had to say refreshing. Nic and I ended up meeting for lunch to discuss Helcim, their services, and how they could help a venture of mine at the time.
Specifically that venture was the SEM Canada Conference which we needed a secure payment gateway for. I was quite impressed with everything I heard, so we signed up, and after a few forms were taking credit cards on our web site.
During the process of setting the site up to take cards, have SSL, and everything else Nic and Jeff from Helcim provided us (myself and developer Devlin Dunsmore) with top notch and very personal service, and even helped us test things out and make sure they were working.
Sadly the conference ended up being cancelled (though failure teaches you man things), but the good news is that even canceling our service didn't have any bumps.
Since my first experience with Helcim, I've gotten to know them a bit better, recommending a few clients to them, and we are personally using their Virtual Terminal service to accept credit card for our clients who wish to pay as such.
Very recently Nic asked for my recommendations for blog software (I said Wordpress) as they wanted to communicate in a more open manner about the ins and outs of the Payment Processing and Merchant Accounts world. Thus their new Helcim Blog was born.
